One of the things that made two weeks out of our month in Sri Lanka truly memorable was the tour we arranged with Ashad from Destination Serandib. Our plan had originally been to do an eight day trip using local transportation to see various sites of the island. However, we quickly realized that it would be impossible to see as much of Sri Lanka as we wanted in 8 days by taking public transport. The three of us are experienced budget travellers, so we started looking for someone who could provide a flexible and safe service for a good price.

Destination Serendib was recommended to us by a Sri Lankan friend, for which we are very grateful as our experience working with Ashad from Destination Serendib was superb. With Ashad, we were able to design the tour that we wanted as well as change a few things along the way.

We travelled from Kandy to Dambulla and then to Polonnaruwa, including a side trip to Sigiriya. From there we took another side trip to Batticaloa, on the east of the island. It was a remarkable trip as we were able to see the part of the island that had been impacted greatly by both the war and the tsunami. It is not much visited by tourists.

From Batticaloa we travelled to the hill country - Ella (with an impromptu cooking class at the hotel arranged by Ashad!), World's End, Adam's Peak, Nuwara Eliya, and finally south to Unawatuna (for a few days on the beach).

During the entire trip, Ashad was wonderful - finding us some unique, out of the way places to stay and helping us to get the most out of the days and the places we visited. He certainly went above and beyond....with grace, calm, flexibility and a wonderful sense of humour.

Highly recommended!
